WHAT TO EXPECT IN GRADE 3

This year will be the first year of the new French Immersion Grade 3 Program. The changes for 2019-2020 include:
We will do our best to help the students adapt to the new French Immersion model as described above. We would like to work in partnership with you to help support students, particularly in English language and Math.
Students will continue to apply the inquiry process to work in social studies and science to guide their learning. Students will communicate findings in a variety of ways (oral, visual, written). This process guides students to seek information from reliable sources and organize data to draw conclusions about a topic.
Learning Skills continue to carry value for learning at every stage of elementary school. Students will begin to use meta-cognition to identify when they are using the necessary skills in class. Students will refer to the posted learning skills and apply them in various school situations. These are discussed frequently and posted in the classroom for reference and reminder.
A combination of data for each subject area is reported on 3 times during the school year on a Progress Report (November) and 2 Report Cards ( February, June) in a combination of the forms of assessment listed here:
- language (reading, writing, speaking, listening)
- math *new for 2019-2020
- science
- social studies
- health/phys ed
- music

- Increase in French subjects to 80% (previously 50%)
- Math to be delivered in French only (previously in English only)
